{"id":17772,"date":"2016-01-28T12:44:09","date_gmt":"2016-01-28T10:44:09","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/?p=17772"},"modified":"2016-01-28T12:44:09","modified_gmt":"2016-01-28T10:44:09","slug":"police-arrest-10-suspects-of-neno-4-killings","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/index.php\/2016\/01\/28\/police-arrest-10-suspects-of-neno-4-killings\/","title":{"rendered":"Police arrest 10 suspects of Neno 4 killings"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Neno police have arrested 10 people suspected to have had a hand in the killing of four elderly people who were accused of killing a girl through witchcraft.<\/p>\n<p>According to the police, the villagers had been suspecting that the four old-aged-people; Eliza Kanjete, 86, Elenafa Kanjete, 76, Byson Kanjete, 73, and Idesi Kanjete, 69, were witches and the \u2018mysterious\u2019 death of the girl after being struck by lightning was the last straw.<\/p>\n<p>When the girl died at noon on Monday, the angry villagers stormed the homes of the four old people and beat them up using various weapons.<\/p>\n<p>On Wednesday Malawi Law Society and several civil society organisations issued statements condemning the barbaric acts and urged the police to expedite investigation of the matter.<\/p>\n<p>The law society also offered free legal services to government to prosecute the culprits.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Neno police have arrested 10 people suspected to have had a hand in the killing of four elderly people who were accused of killing a girl through witchcraft.
