Faith Mussa\u2019s song \u2018Desperate\u2019 has brought him commendation from the public for an impressive work.<\/p>\n
Now he has to deal with some negative development about it as a Lilongwe based musician Atoti Manje, real name Elias Samson, has played a fast one on him by playing the same song, using the same beat but changing the lyrics and making it a bit of a dancehall.<\/p>\n
In the song, Faith poured his heart out to God, saying he was desperate for God\u2019s love. In the \u2018stolen\u2019 rendition, Atoti says he is desperate for a kiss and love from his beloved.<\/p>\n
\u201cIne ndili desperate for your kiss, ine ndili desperate for your love,\u201d go the lines.<\/p>\n
The development has since irked Mussa who has since consulted Copyright Society of Malawi (Cosoma) on the matter.<\/p>\n
Mussa says Atoti did not even consult him to seek his consent to use the song.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis is stealing because there is no creativity in his song; this is my song which I took time to compose and he wants to reap where he did not sow,\u201d Mussa says.<\/p>\n
But Atoti denies stealing anybody\u2019s song.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis is my song and I have not stolen it from anyone,\u201d he says.<\/p>\n
He has even challenged he would defend himself if Cosoma comes in.<\/p>\n
Mussa has since posted his complaints on musicians\u2019 forum where several musicians say they are ready to assist to get justice on the issue.<\/p>\n
Mussa said he called Cosoma\u2019s Executive Director Dora Makwinja who advised him to put everything in writing.<\/p>\n
\u201cI am currently compiling evidence. I called Cosoma\u2019s Executive Director Dora Makwinja who has advised me to put everything in writing and also evidence of the song in the CD and send to Lilongwe office as soon as possible,\u201d said the singer and guitarist.<\/p>\n
He said he might not be the only one affected as Great Angels has also faced a similar problem.<\/p>\n
\u201cGreat Angels Choir has also faced a similar problem but I have just forgotten the song. I will take action and I am ready to sue him,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
