{"id":17681,"date":"2016-01-27T14:06:39","date_gmt":"2016-01-27T12:06:39","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/?p=17681"},"modified":"2016-01-27T14:06:39","modified_gmt":"2016-01-27T12:06:39","slug":"lutepo-says-jb-gave-john-tembo-cashgate-money-for-mcp-convention","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/index.php\/2016\/01\/27\/lutepo-says-jb-gave-john-tembo-cashgate-money-for-mcp-convention\/","title":{"rendered":"Lutepo says JB gave John Tembo cashgate money for MCP convention"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Cashgate convict Oswald Lutepo on Wednesday told a court in Lilongwe that People Party leader and former president Joyce Banda funded John Tembo with cashgate money to at the 2013 Malawi Congress Party convention.<\/p>\n<p>Lutepo was testifying in the on-going trial of suspects of shooting of Paul Mphwiyo who was government\u2019s budget director.<\/p>\n<p>According to Lutepo, Banda wanted a weaker candidate to emerge in the MCP camp so that her party could not face strong opposition during the May 2014 elections.<\/p>\n<p>The wheel-chair ridden witness told the court that Pika Manondo, one of the suspects in the shooting was entrusted with the role of delivering the money adding that\u00a0\u00a0up to K5 million bankrolled the operation.<\/p>\n<p>Lutepo, is himself, serving an 11-year jail term for them of public resources which came to light after the Mphwiyo shooting.<\/p>\n<p>He has also testified in the same court that he was coaxed by police officers to implicate Ralph Kasambara in the cashgate case and not shooting of Mphiyo.<\/p>\n<p>When he was asked by the Director of Public Prosecutions Mary Kachale as to who introduced him to cashgate, Lutepo mentioned Pika Manondo.\u00a0Hearing of the case is still continuing in Lilongwe.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Cashgate convict Oswald Lutepo on Wednesday told a court in Lilongwe that People Party leader and former president Joyce Banda funded John Tembo with cashgate money to at the 2013 Malawi Congress Party convention.
