The 2015 edition of Presidential national netball trophy finals concludes Saturday at Blantyre Youth Centre with Central Region teams aiming to break Southern Region teams’ dominance.<\/p>\n
However, Central Region giants, Blue Eagles Sisters and Civonets, have bemoaned the absence, in their region, of a league where teams can gauge their strengths and weaknesses.<\/p>\n
Blue Eagles assistant coach, Dalitso Tepetheya, said it was their wish to win their first-ever Presidential trophy.<\/p>\n
\u201cHowever, our counterparts in the Southern Region always have an advantage as they compete in a league. They are always fit and they have time to assess their squads,\u201d he said in reference to the Rainbow Paints Southern Region Netball League.<\/p>\n
Tepetheya said they were determined to stun Southern Region sides who have dominated the competition through Complex Tigresses and Kukoma Diamonds.<\/p>\n
The two teams have won the competition three times each.<\/p>\n
Civonets caretaker coach, Whyte Mulilima, said it was possible to change the present status.<\/p>\n
\u201cLong time ago, it was Central region teams that used to dominate national tournaments. However, the balance of power shifted to the Southern Region. Nevertheless, you will notice that both Civonets and Blue Eagles Sisters have made huge strides. It is just a matter of time before we reclaim lost glory,\u201d said the caretaker coach, who replaced late coach Connis Mhone.<\/p>\n
Netball Association of Malawi general secretary, Carol Bapu, challenged the rest of the teams to aim for the title, adding “they just need to plan well.\u201d<\/p>\n
Presidential national netball trophy finals attracted 12 teams and were drawn into four groups. The champions will pocket K4 million.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
