Petroleum Importers Limited (PIL) has donated K3 million to the Media Institute of Southern Africa (Misa) Malawi Chapter to assist towards this year\u2019s celebrations to mark World Press Freedom Day.<\/p>\n
PIL says the donation came as a response to a request made by Misa Malawi asking the private sector to help in raising funds towards the event.<\/p>\n
Making the donation, General Manager of Petroleum Importers Limited, Enwell Kadango, said PIL was delighted to be the first company to respond to the call made by Misa emphasizing that media in the country plays a big role in informing and educating the masses.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe rely on the media to convey our message to the people out there. So we thought it wise to be among the people who will sponsor this event so that the media continues to inform the masses of what is happening in the country,\u201d said Kadango.<\/p>\n
Kadango further asked the media to strive to report what is true, noble and right arguing that they [the media] are the mouthpiece through which information is disseminated to Malawians.<\/p>\n
Misa-Malawi Chairperson, Thom Khanje, expressed his gratitude towards the donation, saying it will help in the organisation of the event which serves as a reminder to government of the need to respect their commitment to press freedom.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe organise the celebrations every year as a way of promoting press freedom and professionalism in the country which is key to the social economic development of the country,\u201d Khanje explained.
