As in-fighting continues in People\u2019s Party (PP), senior leaders have found a way of performing their duties without necessarily being in contempt of court.<\/p>\n
Last week, the party\u2019s National Organising Secretary, Salim Bagus, obtained an injunction at the High Court in Mzuzu, restraining the party\u2019s president, Joyce Banda, from appointing Uladi Mussa as interim leader and Kamlepo Kalua as third vice-president.<\/p>\n
But the party Wednesday organised a meeting in Lilongwe where it tackled different issues. During the meeting, women could be heard singing \u2018Tikuthokoza Mayi Banda eyaye posankha a <\/em>Uladi awa eyaye<\/em>..\u2019 [We thank Madam Joyce Banda for appointing Uladi \u2026.].<\/p>\n But in an interview, Mussa said he addressed the people in his capacity as leader of the PP in Parliament.<\/p>\n \u201cI came to hold this regional meeting as a leader of PP in Parliament. As you know, there is an injunction on some positions. I came to plan, to come up with a strategy on the way forward for our party. We need to travel throughout the country, to enhance our party, to strengthen our party. We need to fill in wherever there is a vacancy. In short, it was a planning meeting for PP,\u201d Mussa said.<\/p>\n On the issue of injunction, he stressed: \u201cThe injunction is on the appointment of acting president. They [Bagus and others] are fully aware that despite the injunction they obtained, I am the vice president of the party, I\u2019m leader of this party in the National Assembly. These positions enable me to conduct any political activity throughout the country.\u201d<\/p>\n He said the party\u2019s lawyers are fighting the injunction.<\/p>\n \u201cOur lawyers are working on vacating the injunction. Any time soon it will be vacated. There is nothing wrong constitutionally to appoint an acting president.\u201d<\/p>\n On his part Kalua said: \u201cI\u2019m not yet served with that injunction. I\u2019m very surprised that up to this point in time, I have not been served with that injunction.\u201d<\/p>\n He, however, said he is not yet performing his duties as the party\u2019s third vice president.<\/p>\n According to the party\u2019s Deputy Secretary General, Ulemu Chilapondwa, members of the party\u2019 Central Province, National Executive Committee members in the region and committee members from the districts were in attendance.<\/p>\n The party leaders have also been to the Southern and Eastern regions.<\/p>\n Last week\u2019s injunction, granted by Judge Dingiswayo Madise, further restrains Mussa and Kalua from performing duties as acting president and third vice-president respectively.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" As in-fighting continues in People\u2019s Party (PP), senior leaders have found a way of performing their duties without necessarily being in contempt of court.
