{"id":16772,"date":"2016-01-19T08:17:43","date_gmt":"2016-01-19T06:17:43","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/?p=16772"},"modified":"2016-01-19T08:17:43","modified_gmt":"2016-01-19T06:17:43","slug":"veteran-mzuzu-musician-turns-gospel","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/index.php\/2016\/01\/19\/veteran-mzuzu-musician-turns-gospel\/","title":{"rendered":"Veteran Mzuzu musician turns gospel"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/manda.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-16776\" src=\"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/manda-293x300.jpg\" alt=\"manda\" width=\"293\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/manda-293x300.jpg 293w, https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/manda.jpg 315w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 293px) 100vw, 293px\" \/><\/a>Veteran Mzuzu\u2013based musician Victor Godfrey Manda has joined a number of local artists who have dumped secular music for gospel saying he is now a born again christian.<\/p>\n<p>The 70-year old musician said having been in secular for years, he feels it is now time to sing for the Lord.<\/p>\n<p>The former Barclays Bank now National Bank of Malawi employee started music in 1960.<\/p>\n<p>He is the founder of Nyika Sounds Band.<\/p>\n<p>Born in 1946, Manda who is also a former student of Henry Henderson Institute (HHI) plays almost every instrument.<\/p>\n<p>Manda famed for the Tonga song \u2018Kadendi Kanyoli Kanowe Msuni\u2019, said all the old wine is gone and that he has now turned gospel.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am a member of the Redemption Choir at St. Andrews in the Church of Central Africa n Presbyterian (CCAP) and having entertained people with my band during weddings for years, I think I have done enough.<\/p>\n<p>Now I am a born again and I am committed to serving God,\u201d said Manda.<\/p>\n<p>He said he has stopped singing secular music and that he has also resigned from the band.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018Kadendi Kanyoli kanowe ndi Msuni,\u2019 was one of his first five songs that enjoyed airplay on Malawi Broadcasting Corporation (MBC).<\/p>\n<p>The musician said he is currently composing the gospel songs and that he will have them ready by the end of the year.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Veteran Mzuzu\u2013based musician Victor Godfrey Manda has joined a number of local artists who have dumped secular music for gospel saying he is now a born again christian.
