Following the gazetting of the high resolution geophysical data, the government has announced the prices for the maps.<\/p>\n
Investors wishing to access the document, will have to part ways with a minimum of K10,000 for different geological maps.<\/p>\n
The high resolution geophysical data results were launched mid last year, but investors could not access because of the price absence.<\/p>\n
Last month, minister of mining Bright Msaka, signed a gazette price schedule for the mining sector.<\/p>\n
According to the gazette, investors or those interested in buying the high resolution geophysical paper map of 1:1,000,000 scale in colour will have to part ways with K33,250 while a PDF copy is at K75,000.<\/p>\n
The 1:100,000 scale high resolution geophysical map has been set at a price of K20,250 while the same copy in PDF is at K75,000.<\/p>\n
The colour high resolution gravity paper map of scale 1:250,000 is going at K27,750 a copy.<\/p>\n
The gazette also indicate that black and white copies of the airborne geophysical maps have been pegged at K10,000.<\/p>\n
In an interview, t h e department of mines publicist Levi Undi said in order to attract more investments in the sector, the prices for the maps are not supposed to be prohibitive.<\/p>\n
He said world wide price schedules for the maps are affordable, hence no need for Malawi to offer its maps at a higher price.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe maps are a guide to investors and we would not want to scare them away with exorbitant prices. We believe that these maps will increase mining investments in the country and also as a nation, we will be able to know the type of minerals we have,\u201d said Undi.<\/p>\n
He further said the maps are not only targeting foreign investors but also locals, who are encouraged to invest in the sector.<\/p>\n
Similar documents in foreign countries are averaging at US$10 per copy.<\/p>\n
In Cyprus the minimum price for the maps is 10 Euro (equivalent to K7,300) while in Ontario the prices range from US$8 to US$12 (an equivalent of between K5,500 to K8,000).<\/p>\n
