In our culture this cannot be accepted and the government, human rights organisations and donors should listen,” said Chiwamba.

Recently musician Lucius Banda, popularly known as Soldier, also stopped his performance at Zitherepano in Mangochi after seeing two men who he described as ‘gays’ holding each other and at kissing.

Some human rights organisations came out to hit at him for stopping a show because he saw ‘gays.’

Lucius has since received backing from fellow artists giving him thumbs up for not tolerating homosexuality.

The homosexuality issue is currently at its peak in the country and recently Peoples Party (PP) Publicity Secretary Ken Msonda came out to say that gays and lesbians should be ‘killed.’

He has been rebuked for making such remarks and has since been summoned by the court.

Chiwamba, who was the toast during the show reciting several poems with the last one ‘Pampanda’ by public demand said he did not know what to anticipate with his ‘Takana Mathanyula,’ poem but with the support from the audience, he was now going ahead to record it.

Asked what his secret has been to winning the hearts of many people with his poems, Chiwamba said:

“God has been on my side and again I believe people love the issues which I tackle because they are issues which affect people in the day to day life.”

The poetry feast continued from last year’s exploits where poets put up impressive performances satisfying the audience.

Some of the poets that entertained people on the day included Raphael Sitima, who also did well impressing with his poem ‘Chala Changa,’ in which he hits at politicians for cheating people during campaign and once elected they neglect the voters.

The others were Hudson Chamasowa, Kenneth Kondiwa, Samuel Joseph and Sylvester Kalizang’oma

Anti-homosexuality issues dominated the Ndakatulo 2016 show held at Chrichi Gardens in Blantyre on Friday.
