{"id":16661,"date":"2016-01-17T12:06:27","date_gmt":"2016-01-17T10:06:27","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/?p=16661"},"modified":"2016-01-18T04:16:53","modified_gmt":"2016-01-18T02:16:53","slug":"rose-chiambo-laid-to-rest-vice-president-saulos-chilima-led-the-nation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/index.php\/2016\/01\/17\/rose-chiambo-laid-to-rest-vice-president-saulos-chilima-led-the-nation\/","title":{"rendered":"Rose Chibambo laid to rest, vice president Saulos Chilima led the nation"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>First female cabinet minister in Malawi Rose Chibambo was finally laid to rest at the new Mzuzu Heroes Acre on Saturday with full military honours at a ceremony Vice President Saulos Chilima represented President Peter Mutharika.<\/p>\n<p>The ceremony started with a church service led by Livingsonia synod moderator Reverend Douglas Chipofya who in his homily called on the congregation to rely on God for help and guidance in all their efforts. Chipofya said God is the same at all times.<\/p>\n<p>While in the church, several people gave their eulogies starting with one of the members Chibambo who thanked the government for all the support rendered to the family during the entire funeral period. He also thanked the government for giving full military honours to Chibambo.<\/p>\n<p>One of the family members, Bizwayo Nkunika said the late Chibambo was not a rebel as history has it. He said Chibambo was a patriot who fought for nationalism, a true believer in God who encouraged her family members to go to church.<\/p>\n<p>Lawyer Bazuka Mhango said the late Kamuzu Banda, the first president of the country, named Chibambo \u201cThe Amazon Lady of the Women League of Malawi\u201d and that she was also offered an honorary doctorate in Philosophy in Learning.<\/p>\n<p>The burial ceremony delayed by about two hours because the grave was not yet ready when the church service was finished. Vice President Chilima was delayed and he arrived at the new grave site at 14.01 hours.<\/p>\n<p>The full military honours given to Chibambo included general salute, handing of the national flag by the military to a family member, committal, three volleys, giving the last post followed by reveille and then paying of last respects by senior military officers that included deputy Army Commander Griffin Supuni and Inspector General of Police Lexten Kachama.<\/p>\n<p>The body was lowered down at 14: 50 and a prayer from the synod followed. All the synod clergy present surrounded the grave as they offered the prayer and performed an activity that reminded all present that they are made of dust and they will go back to the same dust.<\/p>\n<p>Others present at the function included Speaker of the National Assembly Richard Msowoya, former vice presidents Khumbo Kachali, Justin Malewezi; Peoples Party leader Uladi Mussa, Chief Secretary to Government George Mkondiwa, Presidential Advisor on Political Affairs Francis Mphepo, Mzuzu City Mayor William Mkandawire, the city\u2019s chief executive officer Macloud Kadammanja.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>First female cabinet minister in Malawi Rose Chibambo was finally laid to rest at the new Mzuzu Heroes Acre on Saturday with full military honours at a ceremony Vice President Saulos Chilima represented President Peter Mutharika.
