The body of former Civonets and Malawi under 21 netball coach, Connis Mhone was laid to rest on Wednesday at her home, Jumbo Village, in the area of Sub Traditional Authority Nyalubanga in Nkhata Bay District.<\/p>\n
Minister of Sports and Youth Development, Grace Chiumia and scores of Netball Association of Malawi (Nam) officials and Civonets players witnessed the solemn ceremony.<\/p>\n
In her eulogy, Chiumia described Mhone as one of the patriotic Malawians who contributed to the development of netball in the country.<\/p>\n
\u201cConnis is one of the first Malawi netball players who made the Queens to be known at the international front. These are the girls who were fully committed to the sport until when she retired and still more continued to impart her netball skills to upcoming girls like Mwawi Kumwenda,\u201d said Chiumia.<\/p>\n
Nam president, Rose Chinunda concurred with Chiumia that Mhone unearthed talent of many netball players currently playing in the national netball team and that she was a God fearing woman.<\/p>\n
Civonets chaiperson, Ethel Phwitiko Muphuwa, described the loss of Mhone as a big blow to the team. She said Mhone demonstrated her love for the team by sacrificing her resources for the team.<\/p>\n
\u201cYou may wish to know that Connis liked the team to the extent of sacrificing her resources for the welfare of the players. For instance, as I am talking to you, she was keeping some players in her house in Lilongwe who were taken from far places like Lilongwe. Even on her sick bed, she asked me how the team is going to progress if she dies,\u201d said Muphuwa with grief on her face.<\/p>\n
The team\u2019s captain, Colleta Mwalilino described Mhone as a mother who will be missed by the team.<\/p>\n
Mhone died on Monday at Kamuzu Central Hospital at the age of 48 after succumbing to cervical cancer and is survived by two children.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
