\"msonda\"<\/a>The General Assembly of the Church of Central African Presbyterian (CCAP) has urged government not to bow down to pressure from donor countries who are calling upon Malawi to support consensual same-sex sexual activities.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe will not bow down to the deceptions of the donor countries when they say [they] will not support us financially if we reject this. We reject it because it is sin; we reject it because the wages of that sin is death.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut we believe as Christians that even if we don\u2019t get support\u2026God whom we are testifying in the situation like this is going to provide [support],\u201d said Reverend Collin Mbawa, Secretary General for the General Assembly of the CCAP Synod, which comprises Blantyre, Nkhoma, Livingstonia, Lundazi Synod in Lusaka-Zambia and Harare Synod in Zimbabwe.<\/p>\n

Mbawa, therefore, called upon government to take a strong position on the matter, saying Malawi has never pushed the donors to do anything they did not want to do.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo, we expect the donors not to push us to do things we do not want to do just because we will lose money,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Mbawa also said a lot of countries have survived and they still exist in the world after donors suspended aid to them for not bowing down to their wishes.<\/p>\n

Mbawa further said despite the Presbyterian Church of the United States of America and Scotland supporting same-sex marriages, both respected the position of the Synod and still support it financially.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey accepted that they will not push us to accept whatever we don\u2019t accept and we clearly told them not to attach the Synod to anybody who practises homosexuality. Neither should they come or send anybody who practises homosexuality to the Synod.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo, we expect the donors too to respect Malawi\u2019s position because at the end of the day, we believe it is a deception that somebody will say you go and practise homosexuality when we know that the end result of that is going to be trouble for the practitioner,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

The same-sex sexual activities issue resurfaced recently in the country following the arrest of two men suspected to be homosexuals in Lilongwe on December 7 2015.<\/p>\n

Last week, the Malawi Law Society faulted People\u2019s Party Publicity Secretary Ken Msonda for advocating for the killing of homosexuals in the country.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
