Super League of Malawi\u2019s (Sulom\u2019s) efforts to elevate the elite league face challenges after the body failed to develop a strategic plan, which the president Innocent Bottomani-led executive committee promised 10 months ago.<\/p>\n
After he was re-elected in March 2015, Bottoman pledged to set up a committee that would come up with a strategic plan to provide a guideline of strategies for the implementation of his manifesto.<\/p>\n
Bottoman indicated that the strategic plan would be released by June 2015, but a month into the New Year, the document is yet to be finalised.<\/p>\n
Sulom general secretary, Williams Banda, said on Wednesday that the league had a draft strategic plan, but was waiting for other financiers to commit to supporting some of the activities in the actual strategic plan.<\/p>\n
\u201cSome of the issues require financing. We need stakeholders to assist. These issues include development of an advanced accounting system, introducing electronic transfer system, acquiring land and ensuring corporate governance in the clubs. There are also issues to do with revision of fees for the referees and match assessors to improve service delivery,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cWith the coming in of club licensing, we will work together with Football Association of Malawi (Fam) since our president is in Fam\u2019s executive committee. We will have to see at how the process will go so that we could budget on our part.\u201d<\/p>\n
Banda added that some of the issues in the strategic plan such as teams submitting audited accounts and their constitutions have been incorporated in the amended Sulom constitution.<\/p>\n
Sulom wants to introduce a magazine and a website to improve Malawi football brand.<\/p>\n
\u201cMost of the processes are at an advanced stage, for instance, we are working with Chancellor College in the electronic transfer system project. Most of the financiers said they are working on their budgets therefore we would have to wait. Hopefully, the strategic plan will be ready this year. We have to synchronise it with Fam activities,\u201d Banda explained.<\/p>\n
The strategic plan was touted as the blueprint for Sulom\u2019s drive towards professionalism.<\/p>\n
