Malawi netball Queens assistant coach, Mary Waya, has finally cut ties with Thunder Queens (formerly MTL Queens) after picking a coaching job at blossoming Southern Region side, Alliance Capital Stars.<\/p>\n
Alliance Capital announced the deal early December, but Waya was elusive when contacted.<\/p>\n
Waya reported for work at Alliance Capital Stars at Blantyre Youth Centre on Monday when the team regrouped for the forthcoming Presidential national netball trophy\u2019s preparations.<\/p>\n
Alliance Capital Stars chairperson, Dalitso Chinyama, was reluctant to confirm Waya\u2019s hiring.<\/p>\n
\u201cOf course, we have a new coach. I don\u2019t think that you will be surprised if you find Mary at our training,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
However, Thunder players had been spotted training without a coach\u2019s supervision in the past two days.<\/p>\n
Thunders senior players, Joanna Kachilika and Esther Kayira said they were not bothered by Waya\u2019s absence.<\/p>\n
\u201cOf course, the coach hasn\u2019t been reporting for training for some time and we are used to it. Speculation is rife that the coach has moved to another team. We are determined to fight for our positions with or without her,\u201d Kachilika said.<\/p>\n
The move ends\u2019 Waya\u2019s long-term relation with Thunder spanning over two decades, which saw her donning the club\u2019s colours under different sponsorships, including Malawi Telecommunications Limited, Malawi Broadcasting Corporation and Malawi Posts Corporation.<\/p>\n
