Visual artist Ellis Singano, who spearheaded the Malawi\/Germany Art Symposium under the theme Myths of Malawi <\/em>alongside German artist Kris Heide, is set to leave for Germany in April.<\/p>\n

Singano confirmed the development yesterday saying he is going to Germany as the curator of the project and that he will be attending the first two exhibitions.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere will be about six exhibitions in Germany this year. This is a continuation of the one we had last year in April in Blantyre and June in Lilongwe,\u201d said the artist.<\/p>\n

The Malawi\/German Art Symposium saw artists from the two countries working together before producing different artworks which were later exhibited in Blantyre and Lilongwe.<\/p>\n

Heide who led the German artists said from Malawi, the exhibition was going to Germany this year.<\/p>\n

The theme of the project Myths of Malawi <\/em>is related to the oral storytelling tradition of Malawi.<\/p>\n

Heide said during the exibition last year that there is an immanent connection between the two art languages of free storytelling, interpretation, embellishment and fine arts.<\/p>\n

She said the project looks back to the traditional myths in order to tie in with the pre-colonial identity of Malawi.<\/p>\n

\u201cConnected to current art positions of the country we want to get an authentic, contemporary and self-conscious idea of the today\u2019s culture of Malawi. The perspective of the German artists in the position of foreigners allow a crosscultural dialogue. This kind of distance could be an opportunity to express things more clearly and precisely,\u201d said Heide.<\/p>\n

She said the tradition of storytelling in Malawi is only little recorded and that through the project emerged with some stories.<\/p>\n

Apart from Singano, some of the country\u2019s artists who took part in the project include Gilbert Mpakule, Peter Paul Ndyani, University of Malawi \u2013 Chancellor College fine art lecturer Eva Chikabadwa, Kenneth Namalomba, Theophany Nammero, George Mkumbula and David Mzengo.<\/p>\n

The German artists who participated included Mark Krause who had a collaboration with musician Agorosso, Karl Dautermann and Michael Plaetschke.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
