I am calm and still thanking God for this nomination. But then it will even be great if I claim the award and this is why I am calling upon people to continue voting,\u201d said the actress.<\/p>\n<p>The nominees were announced late last year and the public voting opened immediately after the announcement and closes on February 26, 2016.<\/p>\n<p>MultiChoice Malawi Sales and Marketing Manager Chimwemwe Nyirenda has also called on Malawians to vote for Mhango Chavula to do well in the category.<\/p>\n<p>Mhango Chavula faces competition from Sara Bletcher for her movie titled <em>Ayanda <\/em>and Akin Omotosho\u2019s <em>Tell Me Something. <\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Lilongwe <\/em>is a story of a 13-year old girl who later grows into a beautiful young woman but still haunted by her past.<\/p>\n<p>According to Mhango Chavula, the film talks about a very strong woman who had three children from three different men.<\/p>\n<p>In 2014, Mhango Chavula also received a nomination in the Africa Movie Academy Awards (Amaa) for Best Feature Film by Director for her movie <em>No More Tears <\/em>but she failed to make it.<\/p>\n<p>The actress said that the film industry was progressing slowly but will finally get to the destination.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c2015 marked the launch of two film festivals, the Lilongwe Shorts and Cinema Malawi that\u2019s progress and I am looking forward to more exploits this year,\u201d said Mhango Chavula.<\/p>\n<p>She said being a woman in the industry and holding the positions of National Theatre Association of Malawi (Ntam) and Film Association of Malawi (Fama) vice presidents is a huge responsibility but she was happy to be there.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI would like to thank those who put me in the two positions for believing in me. But my greatest challenge is that there is no competition. We have a long way to go and as associations we have a huge task to inspire more women to take up leadership roles,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>Mhango Chavula said the creative industry still has many challenges citing among others lack of proper skills and inadequate funding.<\/p>\n<p>But she was quick to say that many artists are doing their best with the little resources they have.<\/p>\n<p>The AMVCA s which started in 2014 to celebrate the contributions of African film makers, actors and technicians are spearheaded by Africa Magic in association with MultiChoice and the headline sponsor Amstel Malta.<\/p>\n<p>The grand finale will be held in March in Nigeria.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Actress Joyce Mhango Chavula, who has bagged a nomination in the 2016 Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards (AMVCAs), has called for more votes from Malawians.
