Tucked in at the heart of Liwonde, a booming investment haven of Machinga, a new entertainment haven opened its doors for operation on Friday – New Years\u2019 Day.<\/p>\n
The over 10,000 capacity Ngomi\u2019s Park has already earned the praise of celebrated musician Lucius Banda, who described the facility as \u201ca New Year gift to Malawi\u2019s entertainment industry and musicians\u201d.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis place is massive; it is a very good facility and one of the best in the country and the first of its kind in the Eastern Region. Elias Ngomano [the owner] has respected us artists, you know Liwonde has suffered greatly from lack of good venues since the times of manpower hence this new facility, the Ngomi\u2019s Park, has resurrected live music entertainment here in Liwonde,\u201d said Lucius, who performed as a headliner for the opening ceremony.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt is not an ordinary facility, its a big stage of over 13 metres long and five metres wide can accommodate a 20 piece band, which is basically an orchestra, hence to have such a facility locally is a plus for the Malawi music industry,\u201d said Lucius, alias Soldier.<\/p>\n
With a very big stage, spacious park, the facility was constructed targeting outdoor entertainment, weddings, prayer functions and all other functions, according to Ngomano the owner.<\/p>\n
\u201cI hatched the ambitious project after noting that there was no spacious venue for out-door entertainment here in Liwonde. I felt there was need to have a place where people can go as a family to sample all sorts of entertainment, for instance watch live bands, soccer on big screen, drama and even sporting activities like tennis, basketball and netball \u2013 that is exactly what we will be offering here,\u201d said Ngomano, adding he has invested a lot to fulfill the dream.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt is one-stop centre for entertainment and leisure, and we are assuring people of Liwonde and indeed Malawians that we will not tire in our creativity to ensure people have the best entertainment in this facility,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
The facility has also some build in chalets, offering an opportunity for local entrepreneurs to sell drinks, foodstuffs and other things, at a fee.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe designed this facility to match international standards so that it provides the best venue for both local and international musicians and entertainers,\u201d said Ngomano of his 10,000 plus capacity facility.<\/p>\n
And, Lucius and his Zembani Band did not disappoint audience during the official opening.<\/p>\n
He performed the best numbers from his numerous albums. The audience was excited as Soldier showed his prowess on the vocals.<\/p>\n
The Zembani dancing crew, led by Jane Anije Khongwa, added spice to Soldier\u2019s performance that made many \u2013 male and female, young and old – not stick to available seats but get glued to the dancing arena.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis place is cute, I don\u2019t regret travelling all the way from Dedza to be part of the opening dance,\u201d said one patron, Lucius Matope.<\/p>\n
Another, Bertha Banda added: \u201cLet the singing and dancing go, this place is not only spacious but hygienic, going by the good toilets and bathrooms they have, viva Ngomi\u2019s Park.\u201d<\/p>\n
And, Economic Empowerment Action Group\u2019s chair, Lewis Chiwalo said the facility has demonstrated that Malawian small business entrepreneurs are capable of transforming the country\u2019s business landscape with creative ventures.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
