{"id":15645,"date":"2016-01-04T09:15:18","date_gmt":"2016-01-04T07:15:18","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/?p=15645"},"modified":"2016-01-04T09:15:18","modified_gmt":"2016-01-04T07:15:18","slug":"sanzea-tournament-is-expensive-nam-says","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/index.php\/2016\/01\/04\/sanzea-tournament-is-expensive-nam-says\/","title":{"rendered":"Sanzea tournament is expensive, Nam says"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Netball Association of Malawi (Nam) president, Rosy Chinunda, has described the newly-formed Sanzea netball partnership as an expensive venture to join.<\/p>\n<p>England, South Africa, New Zealand, and Australia have joined forces in the new international netball partnership with the aim of having more games outside of the Netball World Cup and the Commonwealth Games.<\/p>\n<p>Chinunda said the four countries have been playing test matches among each other for many years and the partnership was only a formality.<\/p>\n<p>She said Nam was never told about the partnership and pointed out that even if there was an invitation, the Queens would find it very expensive and involving.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe four partners have the money and they can afford it. They will have the inaugural tournament late this year and another early next year, which we cannot factor into our calendar,\u201d Chinunda observed.<\/p>\n<p>The country\u2019s netball boss said the Queens already operate on a tight budget and joining other tournaments would be overstretching the scarce resources.<\/p>\n<p>She observed that Nam prioritises traditional tournaments such as the World Cup, Commonwealth Games and Cosana.<\/p>\n<p>Sky Sports website reported last week that a review of the partnership will be undertaken after two years, which may lead to opportunities for more countries to join.<\/p>\n<p>Malawi\u2019s Queens are ranked sixth in the world and may be among the countries to be considered for the partnership.<\/p>\n<p>The International Netball Federation has indicated support for the new partnership with the competition format for the inaugural event, including dates and venues, to be released this year.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Netball Association of Malawi (Nam) president, Rosy Chinunda, has described the newly-formed Sanzea netball partnership as an expensive venture to join.
