The\u00a0future of Zambezi Soccer Challenge Cup\u2014a pre-season tournament that offered some TNM Super League clubs a rare taste of international football\u2014hangs in the balance.<\/p>\n
Top Sport were the organisers of the competition that was held in the last two back-to-back seasons, with Caps United from Zimbabwe as the high-profile guests.<\/p>\n
Kelvin Moyo, who was behind the competition, last week said he was no longer involved due to conflict of interest with his role as Big Bullets vice-general secretary.<\/p>\n
Football Association of Malawi competitions manager, Gomezgani Zakazaka, last week also said there was no indication of Zambezi\u2019s return this offseason.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are in the process of drafting a football calendar to be out probably by the second week of January. The off-season break without football would run up to February,\u201d Zakazaka said.<\/p>\n
\u201cThen we expect friendly matches and bonanzas in March, and the season as usual, kicks off in April.<\/p>\n
Organisations wishing to host such tournaments still need to apply for licences from Fam.\u201d<\/p>\n
Bullets defeated Caps 2-1 last year to win a watereddown version of Zambezi last year. Caps won the inaugural edition in 2014.<\/p>\n
