As the year 2015 draws to an end, musician Lucius Banda better known as Soldier has said that musicians toiled once again without earning enough money.<\/p>\n
The musician who released his 18th album titled Time <\/em>this year, said piracy continued to flourish in the year 2015 and that he made a loss.<\/p>\n \u201cIt was a year where piracy continued to haunt us; albums in hard copies are not selling anymore as in the past years and with technology things have even become tougher,\u201d said Lucius.<\/p>\n He hailed people for the support in the year 2015 where he said musicians continued to entertain people by holding live performances.<\/p>\n \u201cThe only platform where musicians are making money is through the live performances although you also have to dig deeper in holding these performances. But it\u2019s hard to sell albums.<\/p>\n These days with technology things have changed, people are buying music using other means and so we need to embrace technology so as to stand out otherwise hard copies are not selling anymore,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n Lucius said his latest album was heavily pirated and that he failed to sell.<\/p>\n \u201cI did not sell not because the album was not good but because it was pirated. I think as musicians we need to strive to be at par with other countries in terms of utilising the online selling channels,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n Lucius said many musicians have resorted to holding live performances frequently because they would want to make ends meet.<\/p>\n \u201cThis is the only way and so in terms of performances many musicians tried their level best and Malawians in 2015 have been treated to good live performances,\u201d said Lucius, who is one of the successful musicians.<\/p>\n The musician last weekend performed at the grand finale of the Sound and Light concert at Zitherepano in Mangochi where he shared the stage with among others Chileka reggae group Black Missionaries.<\/p>\n His set however, ended before time after the singer was disappointed by some two men, who were holding each other and at times kissed.<\/p>\n He described them as \u2018gays\u2019 and that as a musician he was disturbed with their actions hence could not continue singing.<\/p>\n The development however, drew the wrath of some human rights activists including Centre for Development of People (Cedep) who condemned the mu s ician and Member o f Parliament.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" As the year 2015 draws to an end, musician Lucius Banda better known as Soldier has said that musicians toiled once again without earning enough money.
