Sweden-based striker Tabitha Chawinga is training with her childhood Lilongwe club, DD Sunshine, to keep in shape during the off-season break.<\/p>\n
Chawinga returned home early this month after winning the Golden Boot Award for Sweden women\u2019s football second division team, Kvarnsveden with 43 goals.<\/p>\n
\u201cIf there was an established league I could have signed for a local team on loan to keep match fit. But I appreciate the fact that women\u2019s football is not as developed here,\u201d she said on Thursday.<\/p>\n
The season in Sweden resumes next February.<\/p>\n
Chawinga revealed that she turned down offers from teams in England and the United States as she already signed a contract extension with the Swedish club.<\/p>\n
\u201cI will wait for 2017 and see the options otherwise it is not possible to move now. I understand a very big team in England asked my club for my services. Ultimately, my career dream is playing for Arsenal,\u201d the 20-year-old said.<\/p>\n
Off the field, the Malawi women\u2019s team striker realizes that football is a short term career hence she is still pursuing secondary school education.<\/p>\n
\u201cI have just completed Form Three and I will be going to Form Four. Thereafter, I will go for a course. My school has delayed a bit due as I was required to study Swedish language,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
