Musician Skeffa Chimoto has mobilised more than 12 000 youth in Mzimba, Lilongwe and Ntcheu to go for HIV test under Bridging the Gap Project implemented by Globe Hope Mobilisation.<\/p>\n
Globe Hope Mobilisation is using Skeffa as one of the champions for its project aimed at preventing HIV and early marriages among the youth.<\/p>\n
The project is implemented in three districts of Mzimba, Lilongwe and Ntcheu and it has conducted 14 campaigns so far.<\/p>\n
At each campaign site, Skeffa mobilises the youth through his live music and encourages them to go for HIV test at the campaign venue and the response has been encouraging as most youth who turn up queue in large numbers for blood test.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe youth are turning up in large numbers at every site we go to. They are motivated to go for HIV test. They look at me as a source of inspiration.<\/p>\n
They see me healthy and not drunk. I encourage them to have their blood tested and they queue for testing. That is encouraging,\u201d said Skeffa at Edingeni, Mzimba site where the campaign was conducted recently.<\/p>\n
At every site, Skeffa plays music and invites some of the youth to be on vocals on stage.<\/p>\n
Then the youth battle it out in a dancing<\/p>\n
Competition and Skeffa then gives out T-shirts to best vocalists and dancers.<\/p>\n
He also asks sexual reproductive health questions and those who give correct answers receive T-shirts.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe campaign has great impact. As the youth come to listen and dance to my music, they also listen to messages about HIV and Aids and the need for them to remain in school for better future. I am enjoying the shows,\u201d said Skeffa.<\/p>\n
Globe Hope Mobilisation Executive Director Caleb Thole said his organisation engaged Skeffa because he is an ambassador for the youth in the fight against HIV and Aids.<\/p>\n
Thole commended Skeffa for his continued presence and lively performances at all venues the campaign has gone.<\/p>\n
