Malawi\u2019s boxing pride, Isaac \u2018Golden Boy\u2019 Chilemba, has dropped from number one to position three on the latest 40-member World Boxing Council (WBC) light heavyweight division ranking.<\/p>\n
The South Africa-based pugilist\u2019s decline on the December ranking released on WBCwebsite follows his last month\u2019s points\u2019 loss to Eleider Alvarez in a 12-round title eliminator at Centre Videotron in Quebec City, Canada.<\/p>\n
The 28-year-old Chilemba yesterday said he was yet to get an update on the revised ranking, but vowed to bounce back.<\/p>\n
\u201cI thought I won that fight. That is what happens when you are fighting in somebody\u2019s territory. If it were held on a neutral ground say in America, I could have been declared the winner,\u201d said the Blantyre-born fighter.<\/p>\n
The loss saw Chilemba\u2019s four-fight winning streak fall to 24-3-2 (10KOs). However, Chilemba has another chance to step closer to his world title fight dream.<\/p>\n
\u201cWith three or two fights I should go top of the ranking and have a shot at a world title. I am meeting Samuel Clarkson in February in the United States. My promoter is working on that. The date and actual venue will be known,\u201d said the former Blantyre Youth Centre fighter.<\/p>\n
On the ranking, Chilemba is the only African in the top 10-band which the Canada-based Colombian Alvarez leads followed by Andrzej Fonfara from Poland on second place.<\/p>\n
Edwin Rodriguez from Dominic Republic is fourth followed by American Andre Ward, Russians Artur Beterbiev, Igor Mikhalkin, Sean Monaghan (American), Yunieski Gonzalez (Cuba) and Sullivan Barrera (Cuba).<\/p>\n
