Mangochi District Hospital has called upon health partners to consider assisting the hospital with new medical equipment to replace the current one which might compromise health service delivery due to their dilapidated state.<\/p>\n
The District Health Officer (DHO) Dr. William Peno made the remarks in an interview on Monday when Amref International donated assorted medical supplies valued at K2.2 million.<\/p>\n
Peno said while the hospital is able to provide most of the basic services amidst the current economic situation, there is need to replace some of the equipment.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are very grateful for the donation and the general support which we are receiving from government and other partners. However, the hospital is currently using more equipment which is very old and can compromise the quality of our operations in some instances,\u201d said he.<\/p>\n
The DHO also emphasised on the need to extend the support to rural clinics in order to reduce the pressure which is exerted on the district hospital as a referral.<\/p>\n
In his remarks, Amref Project officer Charles Suya explained that the donation to the hospital signifies the relationship between government and health partners in improving access to quality health services for Malawians.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe donation was made under the Staying Alive project, which among other things, is aimed at contributing to the reduction of maternal deaths. Apart from hospitals, the projects also directly assist members of the community,\u201d said Suya.<\/p>\n
The donation of the medical supplies, which comprises antibiotics and gas stoves, was made few days after a women\u2019s group donated assorted food items worth K702,000.<\/p>\n
Shinning Ladies\u2019 Chairperson Ellah Harawa explained that the grouping was compelled by reports that patients at the hospital were not receiving food due to budgetary constraints the hospital is facing hence they decided to forgo their annual Christmas party to come to the rescue of the patients.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
