Ntcheu Police has embraced sporting activities to help curb crime in the district.<\/p>\n
The police disclosed this during a bonanza held on Saturday.<\/p>\n
Played under the theme \u2018Sporting together towards free crime environment an obligation for all\u2019 the event featured several activities, including football, netball, volleyball, relay-race and tug-of-war.<\/p>\n
Ntcheu Police public relations officer, Gift Matewere, said they decided to hold the event after noting that there was need to adapt to modern ways of dealing with crime-related issues.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe believe that in modern policing we can\u2019t work in isolation in crime prevention. We felt sport was among the activities that can bring people of different backgrounds together,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Matewere said after hatching the idea, they then sought support from well-wishers including the Malawi National Council of Sports.<\/p>\n
\u201cWell-wishers from Ntcheu and surrounding areas helped us a lot by funding this event. We should also thank Sports Council for providing technical support,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Matewere said following the success of the event they intend to make it an annual activity to share security tips.<\/p>\n
\u201cA lot of people attended the function and we sensitised the general public on how to work jointly to combat crime,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Sports Council administration manager, Henry Mereka, said they were impressed with the initiative.<\/p>\n
