Football Association of Malawi (Fam) has applauded Super League of Malawi (Sulom) for brokering sponsorship for Southern Region Football League.<\/p>\n
Speaking on behalf of Fam General Secretary, Fam Competitions Officer, Gome zgani Zakazaka, said Sulom\u2019s gesture was long overdue.<\/p>\n
\u201cAll along Sulom paid a blind eye to the woes facing the lower league like it had nothing to do with them,\u201d Zakazaka said.<\/p>\n
\u201cNow that they have shown that they care about what is happening in the lower league, they truly deserve a pat on the back.\u201d<\/p>\n
Zakazaka said lower leagues are crucial to the success of the elite TNM Super League.<\/p>\n
\u201cAs such, Sulom needed to be concerned if one of the leagues is struggling to get sponsorship,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cAs Fam we thank Sulom for brokering the Nsejjere sponsorship for the Southern Region Football League.\u201d<\/p>\n
Sulom Treasurer Tiya Somba Banda , who brokered the deal, said Sulom was concerned with the performance of Southern Region teams promoted to the Super League hence the decision to hunt for sponsorship.<\/p>\n
\u201cYou will agree with me that for the past three years all teams that were promoted from the Southern Region Football League did not survive in the Super League,\u201d Somba said.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis was mainly due to the fact that the league was not competitive because it did not have a sponsor unlike the Central and Northern region leagues.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201c As Sulom we recognise that the lower leagues, including the Southern Region Football League, are the feeders for the Super League hence the need for them to be competitive if we are to have a strong league.\u201d<\/p>\n
Southern Region Football Association chairperson, Raphael Humba, thanked Sulom for the sponsorship.<\/p>\n
Humba said the sponsorship would mark a new dawn for Southern Region Football League.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe sponsors are coming in with a lot of goodies. More will be revealed when Nsejjere will formally announce the package,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
The chairperson said the sponsorship would go a long way in making the league competitive.<\/p>\n
Nsenjjere is expected to sign a contract of not less than five years with the Southern Region Football Association next month.<\/p>\n
But for the 2014 season which ends next month, the US based firm will pump in K10 million to carter for prizes for the Premier League.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
