The country is miles away to winning the battle against corruption,” Kapito explained.

He noted that the country started the fight against corruption on a good note but sadly corruption has been entrenched in every sector of the society.

Kapito said it is quite disappointing for our leaders to be standing up and saying that the government is doing something towards prevention of corruption.

“I believe if you go down through every sector you will find that levels of corruption and perception are on the rise,” he said.

Kapito said it is not easy to control corruption at the moment because leaders are benefiting from the evil practice that is draining huge percentages of public resource.

Instead Kapito said leaders just issue political statements that do not make sense and without any action at all.

Commenting on the matter, Information Minister, Jappie Mhango, questioned Cama’s assertions linking the Executive arm of government as the most rotten.

He said Cama needs to explain the basis of its claims.

“Please would you find out from Cama if what they are saying has any basis. Otherwise we would be commenting on something that does not exist,” Mhango said.

But Kapito maintained his claim saying even the ordinary members of society are aware that the top three arms of government are corrupt.

Meanwhile, ACB Senior Public Relations Officer Egrita Ndala has called upon all Malawians to join the Bureau in the fight against corruption.

“The fight against corruption cannot be won by ACB alone but if we join hands, together we will win,” Ndala said.

She said ACB has lined up several activities in commemorating the day that falls on December 9, but the country has decided to shift the main activities to December 17.

The Consumers Association of Malawi (Cama) says Malawi lost the fight against corruption many years back as the vice turned to be the order of the day in all arms of government.
