Malawi Paralympic Committee (MPC) has intensified its preparations for the 2020 Olympic Games to be held in Japan.<\/p>\n
MPC has started equipping its administrators through an organisational capacity training programme, which the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) has facilitated.<\/p>\n
Twelve administrators attended the training first held in August 2015, and another one ended on Tuesday in Blantyre.<\/p>\n
MPC president, James Chiutsi, said training administrators was the first step in realising the 2020 Olympic Games\u2019 dream.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe athletes need to be looked after. They need to be trained and they need to be psychologically attended to for them to achieve their goals. For that to happen, it is necessary that first and foremost, we should train managers,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Chiutsi added that the training would also help the administrators to mobilise resources to aid the athletes\u2019 training.<\/p>\n
IPC programme leader, Mercia Takawarasha, facilitated the training. She said more training programmes would be conducted in Malawi to achieve the 2020 dream.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are looking at the technical capacity of the administrators, coaches and technical officials so that they should build a stronger support system for the athletes. We worked on real life documents. In the future, we will focus on long -term athlete development programmes,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
Malawi National Council of Sports board member, Krishna Achuthan, hailed MPC for the long-term programmes and pledged support towards the 2020 goal.<\/p>\n
\u201cAt Sports Council, we are encouraging associations to start preparing for major tournaments four years before the tournament. We will assist with resources, but the associations also have to mobilise a lot of resources.
