Outspoken activist Billy Mayaya is organising a demonstration to pressure government to urgently produce a detailed report on the death of former Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) director of finance and corporate affairs Issa Njauju.<\/p>\n
In an interview on Monday, Mayaya said it was shocking that government is taking long to make available to the public a report of Njauju\u2019s death although it earlier indicated that it was working on the matter.<\/p>\n
\u201cUp to now we are not aware of the progress made in order to bring culprits to book so as the civil society, we want to demand justice for Mr Njauju so that the issue is brought to light,\u201d said Mayaya.<\/p>\n
He added that the public deserves to know circumstances leading to the death of Njauju because he was a public servant.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are concerned that government is not being forthcoming with information that\u2019s why we want to exert pressure on government so that it brings the issue to public light,\u201d said Mayaya.<\/p>\n
Information Minister Jappie Mhango has challenged the plans saying that Mayaya has no reason to hold demonstrations on the issue.<\/p>\n
\u201cIf he is capable of investigating, why is he not producing his own report? The truth is that the law enforcement agencies have said they are still investigating the matter. After their investigations the findings will be made public, government has nothing to hide,\u201d said Mhango.<\/p>\n
According to Mayaya the demonstrations will be held in Mangochi, Njauju\u2019s home district, but could not specify the actual date of the demonstration being organised together with a group called \u201cConcerned Citizens.\u201d<\/p>\n
Unknown assailants murdered Njauju on July 2, 2015 and his body was discovered buried along the presidential drive in Lilongwe.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
