Local lightweight champion, Salimu Chazama, ha s challenged national junior welterweight champion, Osgood Kayuni.<\/p>\n
The boxers are expected to fight in an eight-round non-title contest in Lilongwe on December 26, 2015.<\/p>\n
Chazama is set to increase his weight by three kilogrammes to make the fight possible as the two boxers belong to different weight categories.<\/p>\n
Organiser, New Dawn Boxing Promotions managing director, Mike Chimaliza, said Malawi Professional Boxing Control Board (MPBCB) rejected the stables\u2019 bill to stage a junior welterweight title contest involving the two pugilists.<\/p>\n
\u201cAccording to the rules, a boxer cannot win two titles under one organisation. In this case, the organisation is Malawi Professional Boxing Control Board. If it is a different organisation, a boxer can move from one division to the other and hold different belts,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
The board\u2019s president, Lonzoe Zimba, while confirming the arrangement, said a boxer can only fight in more than two weight divisions under the same organisation if it is a non-title bout.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis is the reason we have allowed the stable to stage a non-title fight,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Chazama confirmed to have challenged Kayuni to cement his credentials as the best boxer in the country.<\/p>\n
\u201cI also have a problem with Osgood. It appears that every time I am fighting, he is always at the other corner working alongside my opponent. I end up beating the boxers he supports,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Chazama, 22, has fought 21 times winning 19 fights, drawing once and losing twice. Kayuni, 28, has fought 30 times, won 24 fights, lost five times and drawn once.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
