{"id":13574,"date":"2015-12-08T09:19:40","date_gmt":"2015-12-08T07:19:40","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/?p=13574"},"modified":"2015-12-08T09:19:40","modified_gmt":"2015-12-08T07:19:40","slug":"billy-kaunda-opens-up-to-live-acts","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/index.php\/2015\/12\/08\/billy-kaunda-opens-up-to-live-acts\/","title":{"rendered":"Billy Kaunda opens up to live acts"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Musician Billy Kaunda, who is a former Member of Parliament and Deputy Minister of Sports and Culture returned back to the stage on Sunday after a long break.<\/p>\n<p>Kaunda famed for the hit \u2018Mwapindulanji,\u2019 spiced up the launch of Great Angels Choir\u2019s <em>Mwasankha Ine <\/em>DVD launch held at BAT ground in Blantyre.<\/p>\n<p>The musician, who performed with his Armageddon Band alongside Captain Kele of the \u2018Moni Nonse,\u2019 slogan, attracted cheers from the huge audience upon entry.<\/p>\n<p>Missing on the line-up of his backing team was Robert Piyopiyo Dancy, who was present but relegated himself to the audience.<\/p>\n<p>Putting on descent attire, Kaunda did not at all look rusty despite his staying away from the stage for years and he showed that he was still in music as he sang and danced with energy.<\/p>\n<p>All the songs he dished out were familiar to the audience but it was \u2018Mukanafuna,\u2019 which kept lots of people on their feet.<\/p>\n<p>Some of the other songs he dished out included \u2018Lupanga,\u2019 \u2018Mucheze Nawo,\u2019Anthu Otembeledwa,\u2019 and \u2018Ndife Alendo.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am happy with the way people received me after staying out for a longtime. First of all let me thank Great Angels for inviting me. I haven\u2019t seen this gathering for a long time but I must say I am ready to perform and help other artists,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Kaunda, who revealed that he has been performing at his Baptist church, said he is ready to perform in different shows but not ready to hold his own shows.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor now I am ready and open to perform in other shows when invited but not holding my own shows. Again I am not ready to produce a new album because of piracy,\u201d said the musician.<\/p>\n<p>Kaunda, who had people pointing fingers at him when he was performing the song \u2018Lupanga,\u2019 in which he says in in some lyrics that \u2018those who believe in politics, its politics which will finish them off,\u2019 said he was happy that he lost his parliamentary seat.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am not bitter that I lost, I am actually very happy that I lost because I am now free. I have done my part and I am happy for the work I did. I was chosen to serve my two terms in Blantyre and Mzimba and I am not ready to go back,\u201d said Kaunda.<\/p>\n<p>On performing at a gospel concert, the musician said he comes from a gospel background and that his songs are all gospel but people have misunderstood them.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Musician Billy Kaunda, who is a former Member of Parliament and Deputy Minister of Sports and Culture returned back to the stage on Sunday after a long break.
