Football Association of Malawi (Fam) presidential candidates, Willy Yabwanya Phiri and Wilkins Mijiga, have unveiled their blue prints ahead of December 12, 2015 elections slated for Sunbird Nkopola, Mangochi.<\/p>\n
Mijiga unveiled his manifesto titled \u201cReforming Malawi Football into a Viable, Vibrant and Sustainable Industry\u201d at Lilongwe Golf Club on Thursday night, whereas Yabwanya launched his yesterday at Crossroads Hotel in the same city. Incumbent Walter Nyamilandu launches his today also at Crossroads.<\/p>\n
The launch of Mijiga\u2019s manifesto was attended by football administrators, fans and journalists. However, only Super League of Malawi (Sulom) National Referees Committee and Women National Football Committee witnessed the launch.<\/p>\n
Mijiga pledged to focus on grassroots football development, adding that Malawi football has stagnated since 1964 due to lack of visionary leadership.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe essence of our mission is to reform and transform football into a vibrant and viable industry that generates real and tangible wealth for all the stakeholders in the football value-chain with such outcomes as creating lucrative job and career opportunities for players, coaches, referees, administrators and affiliates while creating value for money for sponsors and the fans,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
The Mijiga camp has since warned other candidates against kidnapping affiliates on the eve of the polls, saying the law will take its course.<\/p>\n
In his blue print titled \u201cMy Vision\u201d, Yabwanya has outlined a number of programmes including grassroots football development, establishing soccer academies and introducing refereeing courses in schools.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe success of any national team or its clubs depends on the production of talented youth players coming through the ranks hence I will re-introduce under-10, 12,15,16,17 and 18 to 23 development levels throughout Malawi. This means that coaches\u2019 education and training will be paramount if we are to produce players of exceptional quality to play professionally,\u201d reads part of Yabwanya’s manifesto.<\/p>\n
He has also pledged to increase affiliates subventions from K150, 000 to K1million improve the welfare of players, relationship between Fam and affiliates.<\/p>\n
If elected, Yabwanya has promised to establish Willy Yabwanya Foundation which aims at providing bursaries for players to go to school.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
