{"id":12238,"date":"2015-11-18T09:37:53","date_gmt":"2015-11-18T09:37:53","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/?p=12238"},"modified":"2015-11-18T09:37:53","modified_gmt":"2015-11-18T09:37:53","slug":"caregivers-must-have-msce-says-patricia-kaliati","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/index.php\/2015\/11\/18\/caregivers-must-have-msce-says-patricia-kaliati\/","title":{"rendered":"Caregivers must have MSCE, says Patricia Kaliati"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/national-113.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-12242\" src=\"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/national-113-235x300.jpg\" alt=\"national-1\" width=\"235\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/national-113-235x300.jpg 235w, https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/national-113.jpg 260w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 235px) 100vw, 235px\" \/><\/a>Minister of Gender, Children, Disability and Social Walfare Patricia Kaliati has ordered officials from her ministry to set Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE) as minimum qualification for caregivers in all Early Childhood Development Centres (ECD) in the country.<\/p>\n<p>Kaliati said the current caregivers in many ECDs provide lower standards of early education; a development she said de-motivate other families enrolling their children with ECDs.<\/p>\n<p>The minister said this on Monday when she launched this year\u2019s National Campaign Week of Early Childhood Development in Rumphi.<\/p>\n<p>Kaliati said caregivers should be role models to the children in the centres arguing that this will help the country to move from the current 40percent population of children attending ECDs to 80percent by 2030.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLet me ask officials from my ministry to make sure that caregivers in all the ECDs in the country have minimum qualification of MSCE. We should not be just taking everyone to teach our children. This is spoiling the early childhood development education as it affects their performance at primary school level, secondary and even college. The ministry of education is complaining about lowered education, this is because of poor standards of education standards in our ECDs,\u201d said Kaliati.<\/p>\n<p>One of the caregivers, Anastazia Gondwe told the gathering that they lack motivation when doing their work because they work voluntarily.<\/p>\n<p>Paramount Chief Chikulamayembe said ECDs is a marathon to quality education which he said it is an engine for the country\u2019s development adding that he would punish his subjects who deliberately fail to encourage families to enroll their children to ECDs.<\/p>\n<p>Two ECDs from five districts in the Northern region have benefited from K400 million allocation that was approved by parliament to improve ECDs structures in the country.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Minister of Gender, Children, Disability and Social Walfare Patricia Kaliati has ordered officials from her ministry to set Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE) as minimum qualification for caregivers in all Early Childhood Development Centres (ECD) in the country.
