However, there is room for consideration upon evaluating all the factors.

Prolonging the league will affect budgets for most teams. We must bear in mind that some clubs are not sponsored. If we pro-long the league, it means the clubs will have to dig dipper into their pockets,” he said.

Banda said Sulom also realised the need for teams to feature their full-strength sides to avoid speculation regarding relegation and championship pursuit.

“Already, there are concerns regarding the relegation sides as some teams fear that big teams might weaken their sides to help others dodge relegation. So, if we are to allow teams to feature weak sides after contributing four or more players to the national team, some quarters might accuse us of helping other teams avoid relegation,” he said.

Banda s aid a proper determination regarding the league’s continuation will be made once the Flames’ Cecafa-bound squad is released. “We will consider all factors and come with a solution that best suits all stakeholders. This is a situation which makes some teams to have more games in hand. So, we are treading cautiously,” he said.

Commenting on the mid-week games, Banda said it was prearranged that TNM Super League defending champions, Big Bullets, should face Azam Tigers at Kamuzu Stadium tomorrow while Silver Strikers meet Airborne Rangers at Chitowe Stadium.

“Bullets were expected to face Tigers on Saturday, so since the Flames will likely leave on Friday, we had to bring the game forward.

Similarly, Silver will be involved in the 50th anniversary celebration games of the Reserve Bank of Malawi over the weekend, so we had to do the same,” he said.

Flames will likely leave for Ethiopia on November 19 having been drawn in Pool C alongside Sudan, South Sudan and Djibouti.

Group A has the hosts, Ethiopia, Rwanda, Tanzania and Somalia while Kenya, Uganda, Burundi and Zanzibar are in Pool C.
