{"id":12119,"date":"2015-11-17T07:37:14","date_gmt":"2015-11-17T07:37:14","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/?p=12119"},"modified":"2015-11-17T07:37:14","modified_gmt":"2015-11-17T07:37:14","slug":"asian-shares-rally-as-positive-us-close-boosts-confidence","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/index.php\/2015\/11\/17\/asian-shares-rally-as-positive-us-close-boosts-confidence\/","title":{"rendered":"Asian shares rally as positive US close boosts confidence"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"story-body__introduction\">Asian shares were higher following Wall Street&#8217;s positive close, as global markets largely held firm despite the Friday&#8217;s terror attacks in Paris.<\/p>\n<p>Japan&#8217;s benchmark <a class=\"story-body__link\" href=\"http:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/business\/markets\/asiapacific\/tsenik_tokn\">Nikkei 225<\/a> index closed up 1.22% at 19,630.63.<\/p>\n<p>Shares in Japanese exporters were lifted as the dollar strengthened against the yen on expectations of a US interest rate rise in December.<\/p>\n<p>A weaker yen is good for Japan&#8217;s big exporters as it makes their products cheaper to buy overseas.<\/p>\n<p>The dollar neared a one-week high in Asia trade at 123.39 yen, compared with 123.18 in New York.<\/p>\n<p>In Australia, Sydney&#8217;s benchmark S&amp;P\/ASX 200 index closed up 2.3% at 5,118.20.<\/p>\n<p>After falling on Monday over worries about international and domestic travel following the Paris attacks, several airlines saw their shares recover on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>Qantas shares closed up 5.29%, while Virgin Australia shares finished the day up 2.33%.<\/p>\n<p>In China, Hong Kong&#8217;s <a class=\"story-body__link\" href=\"http:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/business\/markets\/asiapacific\/hkse_hkhi\">Hang Seng<\/a> index rose 1.5% to 22,343.37, while the Shanghai Composite was up 0.33% in afternoon trade at 3,618.88.<\/p>\n<p>In South Korea, the benchmark Kospi index closed up 1.06% at 1,963.58.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Asian shares were higher following Wall Street&#8217;s positive close, as global markets largely held firm despite the Friday&#8217;s terror attacks in Paris.
