{"id":12114,"date":"2015-11-17T07:27:09","date_gmt":"2015-11-17T07:27:09","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/?p=12114"},"modified":"2015-11-17T07:27:09","modified_gmt":"2015-11-17T07:27:09","slug":"guineas-last-ebola-patient-released-from-care-in-conakry","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/index.php\/2015\/11\/17\/guineas-last-ebola-patient-released-from-care-in-conakry\/","title":{"rendered":"Guinea&#8217;s last Ebola patient released from care in Conakry"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"story-body__introduction\">The last known Ebola patient in Guinea has recovered and been released from a treatment centre in the capital, Conakry, health officials say.<\/p>\n<p>A spokesman for Guinea&#8217;s Ebola co-ordination unit said two tests on the patient &#8211; a baby &#8211; had been negative.<\/p>\n<p>Guinea will be declared officially free of Ebola if no new cases are reported in the next six weeks.<\/p>\n<p>The epidemic, which began in Guinea, has killed more than 11,000 people in West Africa.<\/p>\n<p>Neighbouring Sierra Leone and Liberia have already been declared Ebola-free.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The last confirmed case of Ebola has been released from a treatment centre,&#8221; said Fode Tass Sylla of the Ebola co-ordination unit.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We did two tests after his treatment and they came back negative.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The 19-day-old baby was born in the Nongo Ebola treatment centre but his infected mother did not survive, Reuters reported.<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"story-body__link\" href=\"http:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/world-africa-34755170\">Sierra Leone was declared Ebola-free<\/a> by the World Health Organization earlier this month after 42 days without a single declared case.<\/p>\n<p>Liberia was declared free of the disease in September.<\/p>\n<p>The Ebola outbreak in West Africa was first reported in March 2014.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The last known Ebola patient in Guinea has recovered and been released from a treatment centre in the capital, Conakry, health officials say.
