Bullets need just a point from their game against Azam Tigers set for Wednesday to guarantee the title.

Bullets’ closest challengers, Blue Eagles, twice stumbled over the weekend and they can finish with 54 points if they win their remaining games.

However, the win came with a cost for Bullets as their leading striker, Chiukepo Msowoya, was withdrawn early in the first half after aggravating an injury, which he reportedly picked in the Flames camp.

Bullets survived Kamuzu Barracks scare early in the first half with McFallen Ngwira producing a goal-line clearance. The soldiers threatened Bullets through counter-attacks and set-pieces. Ngwira was deservedly named man-of-the match.

After a balanced first half, Bullets responded swiftly when Chikondi Likwemba headed a Yamikani Fodya free-kick into the net in the 52nd minute.

Forward striker Jaffalie Chande, who had a goal disallowed in the first half, cushioned the lead in the 77th minute when he headed home a Ngwira corner-kick.

Just like when conceding the first goal, Kamuzu Barracks defenders left the near post unguarded with goalkeeper Amadu Ali caught flat-footed.

Late in the second half, the soldiers twice hit the crossbar through Harvey Mkacha and Dennis Kambewa’s free-kicks.

Bullets team manager, Rahim Ishmael, said it was a job well done, while Kamuzu Barracks vice-team manager, Lieutenant Jezzman, said it was a bad outing after they also lost to table-anchors, Fisd Wizards, 1-0 at Kalulu Stadium in Nchalo on Saturday.

In other games played on Sunday, Be Forward Wanderers came from behind to force a one-all draw against Moyale Barracks at Mzuzu Stadium. Wanderers were humiliated by Mzuni 3-0 on Saturday. Eagles lost to Epac 1-0 while Silver Strikes and Red Lions drew one-all.

Tnm Super League defending champions, Big Bullets, cemented their credentials to retain the title when they beat Kamuzu Barracks 2-0 at Kamuzu Stadium on Sunday.
