Malawi Defence Force (MDF) boxer, Alick Mwenda, has been dropped from a proposed fight in Namibia following his failure to reclaim the national middleweight belt.<\/p>\n
Mwenda lost on split points\u2019 decision to champion, Felix Mwamaso, during a title fight last weekend at Lilongwe Community Centre. New Dawn Boxing Promotions (NDBP) hosted the bout.<\/p>\n
Two judges gave the title fight to Mwamaso after scoring 117-111 while the third judge gave it to Mwenda 111-113.<\/p>\n
Mwenda, 28, saw his record dropping to seven defeats and 15 wins in 22 fights while Mwamaso, 23, improved to 14 wins and three defeats in 17 fights.<\/p>\n
This is the second time Mwenda has missed a chance to fight in Namibia having also failed to travel there in September.<\/p>\n
Ironically, after failing to get a clearance from his employers, MDF, Mwenda was replaced by Mwamaso, who eventually lost on points in Namibia.<\/p>\n
NDBP managing director, Mike Chimaliza, said they cannot bend an agreement to send Mwenda to Namibia.<\/p>\n
\u201cAfter the fight, we had a chat and I told him that we can\u2019t risk taking him to Namibia. He understood me. Apparently, he seems to be engaged in another mission at his work place,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Chimaliza said he had already communicated to Zimbabwean trainer-cum-matchmaker, Clyde Msonda, to find Mwenda\u2019s replacement.<\/p>\n
Mwenda Thursday said he would have loved to travel to Namibia.<\/p>\n
