Rehabilitation works at Chilomoni Police Sub-station, which was burnt down on June 21 this year by some angry Chilomoni residents, has commenced.<\/p>\n
According to Secretary for the rehabilitation task force, Taona Mkandawire, the rehabilitation work will cost K16 million.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe have started well in the rehabilitation of the police and we have people from the city council who are helping and if all the materials were available the work could be completed in three months,\u201d explained Mkandawire.<\/p>\n
Mkandawire said they have sourced money amounting to K4 million which is too little to meet the K16million target.<\/p>\n
\u201cAs you can see, the onset of rains is near and we need iron sheets so we can roof the building so that our officers can resume their work,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
The taskforce\u2019s secretary further urged other organisations, companies and individuals to help in the maintenance work of the police station.<\/p>\n
Officer-in-Charge at the police sub-station Edwin Mnkhambo asked the communities to take ownership of the police.<\/p>\n
\u201cAs police officers we have been working with the people and because of that we did not run away but rather we served the people as we did before under the tree,\u201d said Mnkhambo.<\/p>\n
Chilomoni sub-station was burnt down together with two vehicles and a motor cycle when some angry residents invaded the sub-station after one of their relatives was found dead.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
