Tigresses are favourites to lift the league championship at the expense of rivals and defending champions, Diamonds.

Diamonds have to win the game by a 35-basket margin to get the title on baskets difference.

The fixture is a repeat of last season’s decider when Diamonds won it on the last day. Unlike the present situation when the teams are separated by three points, last season both tied on points.

Tigresses wanted a draw to defend the title while Diamonds gunned for a win. In the end, Diamonds won to snatch the league.

Tigresses assistant coach, Charles Mhango, said they would not get complacent and that winning was their ultimate mission.

“Our pride and record is at stake. We will fight with our lungs out to finish the league unbeaten,” he said.

Tigresses have an exciting squad revolving around Grace Mwafulirwa- Mhango, Florence Chagonapanga, Cathy Yikwanga, Licy Akidu- Fiwa, Lauren Ngwira, Ellen Chibokho and Sindie Simtowe.

However, Diamonds assistant coach, Noel Mussa, said they must beat Tigresses to dent their unbeaten run.

“We just want to ruin their party by winning the last game. All these are national team stars.

SRNL general secretary, Annie Hanjahanja, said competition was stiff this season.

“We watched some exciting games this season. Some youthful teams were impressive,” she said.

Hanjahanja hailed Rainbow Paints for rescuing the league following the sudden withdrawal of sponsorship by OG Issa Group of Companies.

“Rainbow came at a good time.
