Malawi national football team midfield workhorse, Chimango Kayira, has rejected Mozambican club, Costa do Sol\u2019s contract extension, demanding an improved deal.<\/p>\n
The former Escom United and Big Bullets player\u2019s two-year contract with the Mozambican club expires this December.<\/p>\n
Kayira on Monday said he was ready to continue playing for the Maputo side if they meet his wage demands.<\/p>\n
\u201cI am considering options because several clubs are knocking on my door. I gave them a new contract proposal in which I asked them to double my salary and signing-on fee,\u201d Kayira explained.<\/p>\n
\u201cIf they want to keep me, they must give me a good offer. The club said they are considering my proposal and they would break the club\u2019s record.\u201d<\/p>\n
Kayira has featured in almost every game of the season for the club as they are in the race for this year\u2019s Mocambola League championship and a cup double.<\/p>\n
Kayira is among highest paid Malawian players in Mozambique. Reports suggest that players can get $3,000 (K1.6 million) monthly in Mozambique. The Daily Times <\/em>used $=K544 exchange rate.<\/p>\n Football scout James Nelito Pondamale, who brokered Kayira\u2019s move to Costa, yesterday claimed that the player is making unrealistic demands.<\/p>\n \u201cHe wants $5,000 (K2.7 million) monthly salary and $50,000 (K27 million) signing on fee. That is too much for Mozambique football. Costa told him to go. He will regret this because Costa loves Chimango,\u201d Pondamale said.<\/p>\n The midfielder was elusive on his salary demands, but admitted that Liga Desportivo, Maxaquene and Ferroviaro de Maputo have lined up bids for him.<\/p>\n \u201cThey (Costa) have the figures and the club president has promised to talk to me after our last game against Chibuto. I do not know where he [Pondamale] is getting the figures. I am not looking for $50,000, but $40,000 (K22 million,\u201d Kayira said.<\/p>\n Fifa regulations allow a player with less than six months remaining on a contract to talk to potential suitors, hence Kayira is within his right.
