{"id":10935,"date":"2015-10-26T09:39:06","date_gmt":"2015-10-26T09:39:06","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/?p=10935"},"modified":"2015-10-26T09:39:06","modified_gmt":"2015-10-26T09:39:06","slug":"nomads-focus-on-top-six-finish","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/index.php\/2015\/10\/26\/nomads-focus-on-top-six-finish\/","title":{"rendered":"Nomads focus on top-six finish"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Be Forward Wanderers coach Elia Kananji has conceded that the Super League title has eluded his side this season, therefore, they would focus on finishing in the top six.<\/p>\n<p>The Nomads have been outstanding in cup competitions but they have failed to replicate their form in the Super League where they have not won a match since the start of the second round.<\/p>\n<p>Despit e winning the Carlsberg Cup and qualifying for the Standard Bank Knock-out Cup, the Nomads have lost to Civo United, Kamuzu Barracks and Big Bullets in the second round.<\/p>\n<p>Wanderers came from behind to force a one-all draw against Azam Tigers on Saturday at Kamuzu Stadium to take just a point from a possible 12.<\/p>\n<p>Alfred Manyozo Junior\u2019s goal cancelled out Peter Kasonga\u2019s sixth-minute goal from the spot.<\/p>\n<p>Ironically, the Nomads have played all the four matches at home\u2014Kamuzu Stadium.<\/p>\n<p>Wanderers are now on position eight with 27 points from 18 matches and they were 14 points behind League leaders Bullets before Sunday\u2019s round of matches.<\/p>\n<p>Kananji has confessed they cannot win the title therefore they would focus on preventing last season\u2019s scenario where they finished on position nine.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is hard to catch up with the teams at the top because we are dropping a lot of points. The players are working hard but I can\u2019t understand why we are failing to get good results in the league,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe will keep working hard because we need to finish in the top six so that we should automatically qualify for the Standard Bank Knockout Cup. We are a big team therefore we don\u2019t have to be voted into the competition like it was the case this year.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Tigers finished the first round in second position, six points behind the leaders but they have failed to win in all seven of their second round matches.<\/p>\n<p>They have drawn six times and lost once to drop to the fourth position with 32 points from 21 matches.<\/p>\n<p>After Saturday\u2019s draw, Tigers\u2019 technical directo, Robin Alufandika, said they were confident of finishing the season on a good position.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe performance levels have improved but what remains is for the players to regain confidence so that we can get some points in the remaining seven matches,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Be Forward Wanderers coach Elia Kananji has conceded that the Super League title has eluded his side this season, therefore, they would focus on finishing in the top six.
