{"id":10919,"date":"2015-10-26T09:06:24","date_gmt":"2015-10-26T09:06:24","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/?p=10919"},"modified":"2015-10-26T09:06:24","modified_gmt":"2015-10-26T09:06:24","slug":"baba-stands-out-at-dr-tawandas-show","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/index.php\/2015\/10\/26\/baba-stands-out-at-dr-tawandas-show\/","title":{"rendered":"\u2018Baba\u2019 stands out at Dr Tawanda\u2019s show"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Zimbabwean musician Tawanda Benson, better known as Dr Tawanda, finally performed at Robin\u2019s Park in Blantyre on Friday night when he shared the stage with local artists.<\/p>\n<p>Dr Tawanda showed energy on stage and interacted with the audience throughout his live act backed by Mizu Band.<\/p>\n<p>The show attracted a fair audience and saw reggae group Black Missionaries closing the chapter in the early hours of Saturday.<\/p>\n<p>However, it was Dr Tawanda\u2019s popular gospel song \u2018Baba,\u2019 which had the audience singing along and dancing.<\/p>\n<p>His other songs were completely strange as the audience kept it low but he killed it when he performed \u2018Baba,\u2019 which he later also translated to Chichewa.<\/p>\n<p>The artist made sure he engaged the audience during his performance and there were moments when he invited people to sing the song \u2018Baba,\u2019 and the winner received a copy of his DVD.<\/p>\n<p>He also conducted a competition towards the end of his performance involving women which was more like a beauty contest and he gave the winner an expensive necklace.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier on, Dr Tawanda also collaborated in a song with Nepman, who he revealed he wants to stitch up a song with him and also joined Anthony Makondetsa in one of the songs where he played freestyle.<\/p>\n<p>But much as Dr Tawanda showed potential during his performance, others felt the combination was not perfect as he could have performed with gospel artists.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think the pairing with Black Missionaries and other artists was not perfect. He seems to be more gospel so I wish if this was an afternoon show and then sharing the stage with gospel artists,\u201d said Kondwani Mazizi.<\/p>\n<p>Dr Tawanda said he was over the moon with the support he received from Malawians.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI just don\u2019t know what to say but I am humbled with the support I have received. I never knew Malawians love my song \u2018Baba,\u2019 this much,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Before he started performing, he greeted the audience in Chichewa screaming \u2018Muli bwanji Malawi!\u2019<\/p>\n<p>Mizu Band led by vocalists JJ and Eunice Mhango took people down memory lane performing cover songs originally done by other artists, including Paul Symon.<\/p>\n<p>The other performances on the show which started on Friday through to Saturday included Toza Matafale, Khozie Masimbe and Moda Fumulani.<\/p>\n<p>The Zimbabwean artist, who is in the country courtesy of Mizu Entertainment, was yesterday performing at Lilongwe Golf Club.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Zimbabwean musician Tawanda Benson, better known as Dr Tawanda, finally performed at Robin\u2019s Park in Blantyre on Friday night when he shared the stage with local artists.
