Mayor of the City of Blantyre Noel Chalamanda on Wednesday called for more support from the corporate world towards this year\u2019s Miss Blantyre pageant to be held at College of Medicine Complex on October 30.<\/p>\n
\u201cBlantyre City Assembly duly appreciates various corporate partners for their overwhelming support in several city projects. Miss Blantyre is an eco-tourism project where young and fun loving people feel directly empowered so let\u2019s support the Miss Blantyre 2015,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Chalamanda hailed BizMalawi for sponsoring the corporate night which among others gave an opportunity to people to interact with the contestants.<\/p>\n
The Mayor who announced that Blantyre City Assembly will donate half a million kwacha towards the Miss Blantyre 2015 pageant pledged their total support to the event.<\/p>\n
\u201cOur City is beautiful and has a rich history of success. So Miss Blantyre will be the most popular youth brand and this gives an opportunity to both government, non-governmental organisations and the private sector to work with this queen in their major campaigns for marketing, social involvement and human rights,\u201d said the mayor.<\/p>\n
He said presently, they have a plan for three top ladies in Miss Blantyre, stressing that the first and second princesses each will identify a charity project which \u201cour corporate institutions and organisations sharing this dream can support.\u201d<\/p>\n
Chalamanda said Blantyre City Assembly has a humble wish to create a work ethic where everyone is part of the activities of community importance regardless of age and social class.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis therefore is a great call to all Blantyre residents to be responsible for city issues such as sanitation, paying rates, combating crime and promotion of socially appropriate practices,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Chalamanda said early this year they received a proposed from Blantyre youth to endorse and support Miss Blantyre 2015 and that they found this to be an exciting initiative.<\/p>\n
\u201cElsewhere, big cities also have queens. Blantyre City is trendy. And, suffice to say, our ladies are beautiful but only one can be Miss Blantyre. We are a legendary city and this is international practice from all walks of life,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Chalamanda said successful models from such pageants elsewhere graduate to contest for national crowns and even represent their countries at global events such as Miss World.<\/p>\n
He then said as Blantyre City Assembly they want the Miss Blantyre 2015 to take up a leading role in the Keep Blantyre Clean and Green Campaign and other campaigns they are implementing.<\/p>\n
\u201cBeing young and fun loving, we believe the next Miss Blantyre will take up a huge task to set up an example of a socially responsible lady and someone fellow youth and seniors can refer for a role model, not just a model,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Chalamanda then offered credits to the current Miss Blantyre Nerani Nthala, who he said has lived up to be an example to other girls and that she started a project at Blantyre Girls Primary School where she has inspired girls to stay in school and work hard.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis explains the theme of this year which is beyond beauty. We have interest in a Miss Blantyre who can explore her potential and use her influence to benefit fellow youth of Blantyre and support the City Assembly in execution of youth activities,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Chairperson of the Miss Blantyre 2015 Daniel Ngwira said they are still in need of support but hinted that they are ready for the event which will be spiced up by several performances.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
