{"id":10742,"date":"2015-10-22T07:45:40","date_gmt":"2015-10-22T07:45:40","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/?p=10742"},"modified":"2015-10-22T07:45:40","modified_gmt":"2015-10-22T07:45:40","slug":"clubs-shun-medical-scheme","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/index.php\/2015\/10\/22\/clubs-shun-medical-scheme\/","title":{"rendered":"Clubs shun medical scheme"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>With the season getting to an end, most Super League teams have not registered their players on a medical scheme initiated by the league governing body, Super League of Malawi (Sulom).<\/p>\n<p>All the teams were required to put their players on the scheme, but the project has received lukewarm reception from the clubs.<\/p>\n<p>Clubs were supposed to put a squad of 30 players on the scheme and contribute K64,000 per season.<\/p>\n<p>But big clubs including Big Bullets, Be Forward Wanderers and Silver Strikers have ignored the project.<\/p>\n<p>Sulom general secretary, Williams Banda, yesterday confirmed that few clubs have complied.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe feel that the matter is important. As Sulom, we will engage the teams again to sensitise them on the importance of the scheme. We think the orientation was not done properly, \u201cBanda said.<\/p>\n<p>All Malawi Defence Force(MDF) sponsored teams have their players on the scheme, so is the case with Blue Eagles, a Malawi Police Service-sponsored team, and Civo United.<\/p>\n<p>Fisd Wizards players are already on medical scheme as they were registered when the club was under Surestream management.<\/p>\n<p>In separate interviews on Wednesday, Wanderers, Bullets and Silver confirmed that they have not registered their players on the scheme.<\/p>\n<p>Wanderers vice-team manager, Steve Madeira, said there no need to start press a panic button as the club is in the process of finalising the registration.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have already started the process and very soon all our 30 players will be on the scheme,\u201d Madeira said.<\/p>\n<p>Bullets vice-general secretary, Kelvin Moyo, said the club submitted the registration forms to Sulom. The death of Bullets\u2019 defender Douglas Chirambo fast-tracked the implementation of the scheme.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOn our part, we did everything required to put the players on scheme but we are waiting for response from Sulom,\u201d Moyo said.<\/p>\n<p>Silver acting general secretary, Fred Kalonga, said: \u201cSince the initiative was launched, we have not received any official communication from Sulom as to when we will start remitting our payments to Masm. So far two invoices are in our custody and we cannot act on them unless we get updates from Sulom.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In an interview, former Golden Arrows striker, Peter Wadabwa, said the medical scheme is very important.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn professional leagues such as South Africa, all the players are put on medical scheme.
