{"id":10730,"date":"2015-10-22T07:34:35","date_gmt":"2015-10-22T07:34:35","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/?p=10730"},"modified":"2015-10-22T07:34:35","modified_gmt":"2015-10-22T07:34:35","slug":"baba-star-in-town","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/index.php\/2015\/10\/22\/baba-star-in-town\/","title":{"rendered":"\u2018Baba\u2019 star in town"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Zimbabwean musician and producer Tawanda Benson better known as Dr Tawanda is in the country ahead of two concerts at Robin\u2019s Park in Blantyre tomorrow night and Lilongwe Golf Club on Saturday.<\/p>\n<p>Dr Tawanda, will be performing in the country for the first time courtesy of Mizu Entertainment.<\/p>\n<p>The musician, who is based in Botswana, is famed for the hit \u2018Baba,\u2019 which is currently enjoying airplay in some of the radio stations and other entertainment places.<\/p>\n<p>Dr Tawanda said he is delighted to perform in the country and he is looking forward to sharing the stage with some of the country\u2019s top artists.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am exci ted to be in Malawi, it\u2019s my first time but I am already feeling at home. Malawians are friendly people and so I am ready to entertain them just to appreciate the warmth they have accorded me,\u201d said the singer, before showing his dance moves.<\/p>\n<p>Dr Tawanda who wil l perform live backed by Mizu Band also went on to sing a few of his other songs but he could not avoid the hit \u2018Baba.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy song \u2018Baba,\u2019 is all over but let me tell Malawians that \u2018Baba,\u2019 is not the only song, I have lots of songs they will enjoy. So I urge them not miss these two concerts in Blantyre and Lilongwe,\u201d said the singer.<\/p>\n<p>As a producer, he has worked with several musicians in Botswana.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am looking forward to doing collaborations with musicians here, artists like Nepman of the \u2018Nalelo,\u2019 fame but we will see. I am also happy to share the stage with reggae group Black Missionaries, Lulu and Mizu Band which will back me up. We have had intensive training,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Dr Tawanda described his music as unique in touch and standard adding that it has its own taste and level of quality.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI do dancehall, house and traditional but being a musician and producer I am flexible so I am not that restricted, I do all genres of music,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>The artist, who has stayed in Botswana for close to seven years, started his career in 2000 and so far he has five albums.<\/p>\n<p>Among others, Dr Tawanda has worked and produced hits for Botswana\u2019s artists Vee, Slizer, who once performed at the Blantyre Arts Festival (BAF), Franco, Maghebula and DJ Colastraw.<\/p>\n<p>Apart from \u2018Baba,\u2019 his other songs are \u2018Tevera Jesu,\u2019 \u2018Zorai Butter,\u2019 \u2018Paita Cash,\u2019 and \u2018Dr Tawanda in Action.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>Miz u Entertaiment Manager Emmanuel Maliro said they are on a mission of helping uplifting talent in the country and that one of the things is to bring award winning musicians.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDr Tawanda is a top musician, he has worked with several musicians and on top of that he is a top producer.
