Malawi\u2019s heavyweight boxer Alick Gogodo put up a master-class performance on his international debut when he knocked out Tanzanian Nsajigwa Mwaipopo in the third round of the scheduled eight-round bout at Unenamwa Hall in Kyela town.<\/p>\n
According to his coach Baddista M\u2019balaka, Gogodo dominated the fight from the second round before knocking out his opponent in third with a series of body combinations.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe first round was an even contest as both boxers sized each other. But from the second round, Gogodo soaked his opponent with some body punches. He caught him with a straight right in the third round and he failed to beat the count,\u201d said the coach.<\/p>\n
M\u2019balaka said fans were so mesmerised and some demanded that Gogodo should fight in Dar es Salaam.<\/p>\n
\u201cAnother well-known heavyweight boxer who was present Benki Mwakalebela challenged Gogodo for another bout,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Gogodo said he was pleased with his performance at a time when he was thinking of quitting the sport.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s frustrating to keep training and then fail to fight because of lack of opponents. I thank New Dawn Boxing Promotions managing director Mike Chimaliza for supporting me to travel to Tanzania. My trainer has also been very supportive,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Gogodo, 24, has improved his record to straight three knockouts.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, Chimaliza said New Dawn was pleased with his performance and pledged more international fights.<\/p>\n
