Be Forward Wanderers have demanded a compensation from Football Association of Malawi (Fam) organising committee if the Nomads are to honour a Standard Bank Knock-Out Cup final against Civo United in Lilongwe.<\/p>\n
Wanderers general secretary, Mike Butao, said this yesterday after the commitee\u2019s chairperson, Jabbar Alide, announced that the final will be played at Civo Stadium on November 1. Ironically, Wanderers perform better in Lilongwe.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe do not have a problem playing at Civo or anywhere, but it is becoming quite a costly exercise for us now. Hope Fam will note this and compensate us for transport and accomodation, at least,\u201d Butao explained.<\/p>\n
\u201cIn the Standard Bank Cup alone, out of four games the finals will be our third game in Lilongwe after playing Mafco and Blue Eagles there already. That\u2019s K5m in costs alone for three games.\u201d<\/p>\n
However, Alide dismissed Wanderers demand, saying they are aware of the cup\u2019s rules and regulations that, in consultation with sponsors, the commitee can decide on venues.<\/p>\n
\u201cAt Civo, we are looking at issues of capacity, accessibility and security in general as we expect a large number of fans to watch the game. We have looked at several factors,\u201d Alide explained.<\/p>\n
\u201cPeople have their own interests. Threats are becoming a bit of a problem at the stadium because of the campaign period. I\u2019m not saying this is the only reason. Of course, we consult and agree with the sponsors.\u201d<\/p>\n
Recently, the National Youth Football Committee chairperson, Mabvuto Missi, received death threats. Last week, MBC sports reporter, Charles Chataza, was also roughed up at Kamuzu Stadium.<\/p>\n
The harrasments are strongly linked to the Football Association of Malawi presidential elections slated for December 12 in Salima.<\/p>\n
\u201cI went to the stadium to interview Flames coaches. While outside, I just realised that two fans had descended on me. I fainted and the next thing I realised I was at work,\u201d said Chataza, who suffered neck bruises and reported the matter to Southern Region Police Headquarters.<\/p>\n
Chataza said the attackers accused him of decampaigning a presidential aspirant and agitating for the Flames coaches\u2019 dismissal. The incident happened on the eve of the Flames game against Tanzania on October 11, 2015.<\/p>\n
Last week, Missi said he received threats through text messages and linked the attacks to his earlier remarks that a Fam candidate should stand.<\/p>\n
Southern Region Police deputy publicist, Widson Nhlane, said incidents that happen round the stadium fall under the jurisdiction of Soche Police and that he was not aware of such happenings.<\/p>\n
