Puma Energy has set the hype for 2015 Malawi Open Tennis Championship by donating K1 million towards the country\u2019s first ever Malawi National Tennis Centre, which will host the competition.<\/p>\n
Puma sales and marketing manager, Joseph Chafumuka, disclosed the amount when the firm reaffirmed its sponsorship to this year\u2019s championship, whose sponsorship has been reduced from K8 million to K5 million.<\/p>\n
Chafumuka said they were hoping that the sponsorship would address most critical logistics required in the championship as well as the tennis centre.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe tennis centre is a dream for the nation coming true. This is where most players will be developed,\u201d he noted.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe Malawi Open provides a forum for local players to rub shoulders with their international counterparts.\u201d<\/p>\n
Lawn Tennis Association of Malawi (LTAM) general secretary, Christopher Kachale, applauded Puma for supporting the championship.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are now finalising our preparations and everyone is looking forward to the championship,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
LTAM technical director, Thompson Mtengula, said they expect over 100 players to participate in the championship.<\/p>\n
Mtengula said despite reduction in total sponsorship, they anticipate a thrilling tournament.<\/p>\n
The Malawi Open comprises five sections; men\u2019s open, ladies open, men\u2019s doubles, women\u2019s doubles and mixed doubles.<\/p>\n
Last year, Kenyan siblings Ismail and Shufaa Changawa dominated the event in men\u2019s and ladies sections respectively.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
