Mozambique-based goalkeeper, Simplex Nthala, is available for Flames selection ahead of the Fifa World Cup qualifier in Tanzania on October 7 following reports that his ban is only for league games in the neighbourig country.

The former Be Forward Wanderers captain, who plays for Maxaquene, was in action over the weekend in the Taca da Liga when his side lost 1-0 against Costol do Sol.

It was his first competitive game in two months as he is on a one-year suspension for alleged violent conduct after reportedly attacking a referee. He is challenging the ban, which was earlier for three years.

In an interview from Mozambique, Nthala said he was optimistic that his efforts in having the ban reduced will work. He admitted that the ban has affected him.

“I was just told by the officials that I am playing. Actually, the ban is only valid in the league and it does not involve any other cup. I am happy that if the coach needs my services, I am available for the national team. Our lawyers are ensuring the ban is reduced,” Nthala explained.

Nthala was excluded in the Flames call-up when Malawi drew 2-2 against Swaziland. Nthala’s return to action might be a relief to Flames coach Enerst Mtawali as he is still fixing the goalkeeping problem.

Meanwhile, Flames midfielder Robert Ng’ambi was on target when his team,Platinum Stars beat Jomo Cosmos 2-0 in the Absa Premiership on Sunday. Ng’ambi scored in the 12th minute, but Micium Mhone did not feature for Cosmos.
